New-Collar Hands seeks to understand “new-collar” work, and the people who characterize its current culture and influence on the tech industry. Around the world, highly-skilled individuals from all walks of life contribute daily their blood sweat and tears (sometimes literally) to the development of our technological future. Robotics, software, AI, biotechnology, aerospace, and defense are a few spaces that come to mind.
A new era of gritty, hands-on work is emerging. High-cost college degrees, while extremely valuable to many, have lost their luster to others who still seek to build valuable, marketable skills that technology industry employers need. A resurgence of the classic trades has been growing in recent years — good! Many of these skilled-labor jobs are highly sought after and desperately needed across modern communities, and provide fantastic careers. This is a specific field of interest we will definitely be covering at New-Collar Hands.
But what about high-tech? What about those toiling to build toward the next big advancement in human technological progress? We want to understand the life, work, and culture of those who wake up each day and spend their time crafting the future. Behind every titan of industry (we love you all, we promise) is an army of tinkerers, designers, gearheads, planners, and just plain hard-workers who are ready to make those big visions a reality.
We’re here to cast a spotlight their way. Stay tuned.
